About COHA

No other continuous landmass encompasses a greater latitudinal range than the Americas.  From Barrow Alaska to Tierra del Fuego every parallel harbors a bounty of treasure.  Yet, there exist certain forces, which seek to corrupt the splendor of this noble land, self-interested reactionaries who profit at the suffering of the most vulnerable.

Founded in 1975, the Council on Hemispheric Affairs (COHA) was established in defense of those strong in spirit who for so long had been cast down by authoritarian regimes and hegemonic outsiders.  We strive to accomplish our mission through promoting common interests in the hemisphere, raising visibility of regional affairs and increasing the importance of the inter-American relationship.   We encourage the formulation of rational and constructive U.S. policies towards Latin America that develop political freedoms, economic and social justice intiatives, and advances in personal security.

COHA is staffed by a small dedicated professional core, complemented by a larger brigade of graduate and undergraduate students who receive direct experience analyzing pressing issues in the Western Hemisphere.  We function as a learning mill, with the intention of fostering education and cooperation in the greater Americas.

Enjoy your analysis of development in the Americas, and I look to COHA blog as an important resource in my Latin American research.
